It has been fun watching the absolute meltdown on American Twitter over the decision to remove the legacy “blue tick”.
Despite only having been on Twitter for a short time I was there before the takeover by Elon Musk and back then things were very different.
For one thing, people that certainly qualified for the “blue tick” verification were routinely denied it if they had expressed politically unacceptable views. And people already verified had their verification taken away if they expressed such views. That how I found out that #TwitterHatesWomen though after the Musk takeover, I am not so sure anymore. Funny and strange how the sexist people turn out to be better allies for women than the so-called progressives.
The Twitter verification was a way for the American woke elite to keep everyone in line; if you committed the crime of wrong-speak you’d lose your verification.
Which is also why the American elite is so absolutely furious with Elon Musk. Or, in the style of Tatsuya Ishida:
On the other hand, this is a company run by Elon “petty” Musk, so when a couple of celebrities stated publicly that they wouldn’t be paying for the verification he apparently lets them keep them. Maybe to embarrass them, so they know have to state that they really didn’t:
It’s a strange business model and I am not entirely sure I understand it.
