The legacy of Google Reader

I used Google Reader until it was discontinued at Google and yes, it taught me a valuable lesson: Don’t trust a tool from Google. I use Feedly now. They have one product.

I still see, after 8 years, people mentioning Google discontinuing Google Reader. It became a virtual monopoly in reading feeds and closing it left many feeds without a distribution channel. Apple does some with their podcasts, some work with email subscriptions and Google? Google will probably build something like Google Reader again, starting in Chrome for Android.

I recommend Feedly. They also have an app.

I rely on Google for my primary email address and that may be a mistake. I do not rely on them for anything else.
