“Apple more or less invented podcasting”

Next, some lazy journalist is going to claim Google invented blogging.

It’s impressive lazy and/or dishonest to make a claim like that. No, Apple didn’t invent podcasting and most podcasts aren’t even using Apple’s infrastructure.

It was probably people like Chris Lydon, Steve Gillmor, Doug Kaye and Dave Winer who should get the credit for creating podcasting and MTV, amazingly, for popularising the idea of podcasting.

And Dave Winer? Well, he was also involved in poineering web syndication of blogs, again by creating the necessary technological framework. It’s not surprising that he would build on that for podcasting.

Apple? They created a silo and tried to pull everyone into it so that one day they’d be able to charge money for it. That day is approaching fast.
