On a suggestion from a friend I have begun to use other search engines if I am looking for information that is old or that is considered non-politically correct. The experience is a bit weird.
One the one hand, Google provides me with very relevant, superficial but local information. On the other hand, something like DuckDuckGo, that also uses Google’s search API, often provides me with relevant but either contested or not-very-recent information. Sometimes I am searching for something again, after years, to find it again and is unable to do so with Google.
For someone like me, who is wary of political correctness or sometimes look for information that was published a long time ago, DuckDuckGo is better.
I know we think of Google/Alphabet as a search engine company but they are really just a company that sell online advertising. It’s beginning to show.
