Regarding the news of the first confirmed reinfected COVID-19 patient, this tells us two things. First, his immune system reacted as it should with a heightened secondary immunity response, protecting him from the disease. Second, it did not protect him from the infection which may mean that herd immunity will be impossible – this depends on whether or not a reinfected individual can shed contagious amounts of the virus.
Herd immunity is not ruled out yet, but vaccination seems to be our best bet at the moment. And not some experimental we-are-skipping-phase-3-trials vaccine, a proper tested and proven vaccine.
