In English I had to write a report on Ernest Hemingway’s “The Old Man and the Sea“, a book I was far too young or immature to appreciate at the time. I struggled a lot with the report and my teacher did not find much to appreciate in it, either. As far as I recall he felt that I had missed a lot of the hidden meanings and symbolism in the story.

Today by the way, I am a sucker for symbolism in stories, so I probably see it more places than it really is :-)
