Apparently, on Disney+, the original Star Wars movie, A New Hope, has a fourth version of the Han-shooting-Greedo scene. This version was made 7 years ago by Lucas, before selling the films and the franchise to Disney and the question is, correctly, why?
I have found Lucas’ re-edits infuriating as they seem unnecessary, often in lower quality than the original film was shot and worst of all, undercuts the character development of the movies.
I also think about famous movie-critic Roger Ebert’s take on the many versions of Blade Runner, that if that movie is so great why do they keep going back and changing it?
To me the best version of Blade Runner is The Final Cut version from 2007 and the best Star Wars version is the unofficial Adywan edit.
