9 years ago I visited Portland, Oregon, for the, at the moment, last time. It was my 7th time in the city and I loved every visit; I loved the people, the structure, the transportation and the food. It was in Portland I went to see a baseball game and yet another city where I went to the Zoo to see a Panda and failed to accomplish this seemingly simple task.
A couple of years ago I was stunned by the stories coming out from Portland about violent confrontations between political radicals. I cannot understand it, as there was nothing at all that alerted me to this development back between 2003 and 2010.
Violent crime has been falling for the last couple of decades across USA, but in Portland there seems to be resurgence from 2013. It’s not as bad as it was 10 years ago, but still.
What happened? Or what was hiding beneath the surface in that lovely city?
I don’t know, but for some reason Portland has become the center for violent political confrontations.
