Lincoln and the slaves

The nuances of details: Abraham Lincoln absolutely wanted to abolish slavery as he saw it as immoral and unjust. But he also didn’t think the freed slaves could live in the same nation as their former masters, so he wanted them to leave after becoming free. Sort of “now you are free, please leave on this ship.”

No, he didn’t plan on any forced emigration and there are no signs that he was disingenuous in his Emancipation Declaration.

Lincoln just didn’t think the two different “races” could live alongside each-other without trouble.

I don’t think it changes the historical importance of Lincoln but adds yet another complexity.
