When you add a computer, you get a computer

When you add a computer to something, you end up with a computer.

So, when you add a computer to a shoe, you don’t get a smart shoe, you get a computer. Shaped as a shoe.

Nike’s Adapt BB, a self-tying basketball shoe, is one such. Which means that it has to be charged (wirelessly) and also means that a software update can brick it.

Also, since we are adding a computer to each shoe, we end up with two computers:

[…] app says left shoe is already connected to another device whenever I try to reinstall and start over […]

Buttons on the side of the shoes mean you can still tie them (if charged).

No, this isn’t the 21st century future we were promised. It is the one we are going to get.
