Pie on Trump voters

Tom Walker’s satire as the character Jonathan Pie has been spot on for years now. This one, on “who voted for Trump”, is perhaps his most important yet:

It’s troubling that a satire is more nuanced than most of the coverage we otherwise get. And when Der Spiegel gets fooled into publishing utter lies, as covered in the response from Fergus Falls to Claas Relotius’ articles, it’s probably because those lies are closer to the story that we have told ourselves than reality.

I probably underestimated identity politics back then, and many claim it was one of the reasons Clinton lost. I have since come to believe

We are too technologically powerful to get all tribal again

Don’t play identity politics; you never know who might decide to play as well.
