This is actually a follow-on to my “This is why you need editors“. I regularly use the URL ibm.com to test for internet connectivity. The website redirects me to my country and language specific homepage but now I have gotten a 404.
The reason was that the algorithm on ibm.com, probably based on my browser settings, determined that I was using a Danish (dk) computer with Norsk Bokmål (nb) language. And ibm.com does not have a frontpage for dk-nb, which does not surprise me.
But maybe an algorithm shouldn’t be able to redirect me to a page that does not exist but have reasonable fallbacks.
