Gaming the system

People cheat. I think this should be a law somewhere, because they do.

This is perfectly natural. Tell people you are going to reward them / not punish them if they do X, because you want to accomplish Y, you should not be surprised if they find an easy way to do X, even if that does not accomplish Y.

The problem is that we often want to accomplish something that is complicated or impossible to measure and if we want to direct other the actions of other people, we need to set simpler tasks.

So when fitness tracker cheating becomes a business opportunity, no-one should really be surprised.

Somehow the automatic watch winder category on Amazon comes to mind.
